How to Install the Print Pelican Magazine Printing Extensions for Windows XP

(It is assumed that Acrobat Distiller 4.x-7.x is already installed on your computer.)

This is a complete set of instruction that will help you install the Print Pelican Magazine Printing PDF Extensions for Windows XP. There are four basic steps for it

STEP ONE:

1. Download PDF Extensions for XP.zip
   
   
2. 2.Save the zip files to your hard drive by extracting the files from the zip archive
   
   
3. 3.Print the page and follow the directions.

STEP TWO: Installing the Prinergy virtual printer

1. Start the Adobe Windows PS Driver 1.0.6 (winsteng.exe)
   
   
2. Accept the agreement for the License
   
   
3. Choose the option “It is directly connected to your computer”
   
   
4. After choosing click on “Next”
   
   
5. Choose LPT1: Local Port (In QuarkXPress, choose the port called File.)
   
   
6. After choosing click on “Next”
   
   
7. On the next screen (Choose Printer Model), click on the Browse button at the bottom and search the folder named “Prinergy 2.0 ppd for PC” (which you have already extracted in the preceding step). Click on this folder
   
   
8. You will now see a printer named Prinergy Refiner in the Printers window. Click OK
   
   
9. Choose Prinergy Refiner and click Next.
   
   
10. Choose Not Shared and click Next
    
    
11. Give a name to the new printer, or accept default, which should be Prinergy Refiner. For the option Would you like to print the test page? Choose No and click Next
    
    
12. Click Install
    
    
13. For the question on configuring your printer now, Click No
    
    
14. Save and close your open documents first and then click Yes to restart your computer
    
    
15. Go to Start/Settings/Printers and Faxes
    
    
16. You will now see a new printer named Prinergy Refiner (or the name that you gave it)
    
    
17. After following the above instructions you will have successfully installed the virtual printer. This printer will be used by you to make commercial print-ready PDF files from your Windows programs

STEP THREE: Installing the Acrobat Distiller plug-in

1. Search for the folder named “Extension for Distiller 4-5” which you downloaded and extracted in Step 1
   
   
2. Run the “PrinergyForDistiller.exe” installer
   
   
3. Open Acrobat Distiller
   
   
4. In the drop-down menu of Job Options, you will see the Prinergy Pages item

1. Search for the folder named “Extension for Distiller 6” which you have downloaded and extracted in Step 1
   
   
2. Copy “CreoDistillerAssistant” to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Adobe PDF 6.0\Startup.
   
   
3. Copy “Creo PDF Pages.joboptions” to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Adobe PDF 6.0\Settings.
   
   
4. Open Acrobat Distiller.
   
   
5. In the drop-down menu of Default Settings you will see the Creo PDF Pages item

1. It is the same as Acrobat Distiller 6 above, except for the following steps:
   
   
2. “CreoDistillerAssistant” should be copied to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Adobe PDF\Startup
   
   
3. Copy “Creo PDF Pages.joboptions”
   
   
4. “Creo PDF Pages.joboptions” should be copied to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Adobe PDF\Settings

1. Set the Default Settings to Creo PDF Pages (or to Prinergy Pages), drag a .ps or .prn file which you have made along with your page layout or graphics program into the open Distiller window
   
   
2. A PDF file will be generated by Distiller in the same folder as the .ps or .prn file
   
   
3. Open the PDF file in Acrobat and make sure that all elements are there. Check the crop marks, page orientation and bleeds, etc
   
   
4. Congratulations! You can now make the PDF files for high-resolution commercial printing

STEP FOUR: Installing CreoColorTiff XT

1. 1.The Creo Color Tiff XT will aid QuarkXPress to output colorized TIFF images correctly for a composite PDF 1.3 workflow
   
   
2. Go to the folder named “Extension for Quark 4-5” and copy the file “CreoColorTiffXT.xnt”
   
   
3. The file “CreoColorTiffXT.xnt” should be copied to C:\Program Files\QuarkXPress\XTension.
   
   
4. Restart your QuarkXPress
