How to make a PDF File in CorelDRAW
It is assumed you are using CorelDRAW 12 and have a copy of Acrobat Distiller. It is assumed that you have successfully downloaded and installed the Print Pelican Magazine Printing PDF Kit. You may need to customize your actual settings to meet the specific requirements of your printing job.
STEP ONE: Turn on CorelDRAW Color Management
- Go to Tools and in it click on Color Management.
- In the Color Management window, click on the arrows to set up a workflow like the one in the screen below.
- As the profile for your printers, Select U.S. – Web Coated (SWOP) v2.
- At the bottom of the window on the right of the Style menu click the plus sign; name your new style as Print Pelican Magazine Printing EPS.
- The Style should be set to Print Pelican Magazine Printing EPS.
- Save it by clicking on OK and exit.
Note: The conversion of RGB to CMYK in CorelDRAW is governed by the Color
Management settings.
STEP TWO: Export document to EPS
- Click on File/Export option.
- In the next screen, browse to the place where you would like to save the file and give a name to it or you can accept the default name.
- Select EPS, at Save as type.
- To export the current page only check Export this page only; to export all the pages in the document leave it unchecked (CorelDRAW will automatically convert the multi-page files to single-page EPS files and number them).
- Click Export.
- On the next screen, duplicate the settings in the screen below.
- Choose Export text as Text and check Include fonts in the General tab; the
Fonts will be embedded in the EPS file. You can also select Export text
as Curves to convert the text to vector objects in the EPS file.
- Check Apply ICC profile and choose Composite printer profile in the Color
management area. Now you will see the profile name that you have selected for
your printer in STEP ONE, U.S. – Web Coated (SWOP) v2.
- Set Send bitmaps as to CMYK.
- Set Fountain steps to 1024.
- Set Compatibility to PostScript 3 in the Advanced tab.
- Set Bounding box to Page.
- Check Bleed area, Crop marks and Floating point numbers.
- Click OK.
STEP THREE: Create a PDF file in Acrobat Distiller
- 1.Open Acrobat Distiller.
- The Default Settings should be set to Creo PDF Pages (or Job Options to Prinergy Pages).
- Into the Distiller window drag and drop your CorelDRAW EPS file. A PDF file will be generated and saved in the same folder as the EPS file.
- Open the PDF file in Acrobat to check that all content is displayed properly. Check crop marks, page orientation, etc. Check whether the colors of the photographic images match with the color of images in your CorelDRAW file.
- After following the above instructions you will have successfully created a commercial print-ready PDF file using CorelDRAW!
