How to Install the Print Pelican Magazine Printing PDF Extensions for Mac OS X
(It is assumed that Acrobat Distiller 6.x-7.x is already installed on your computer)
This is a complete set of instruction that will help you install the Print Pelican Magazine Printing PDF
Extensions for Mac OS X. There are three basic steps for it.
STEP ONE:
- Download PDF Extensions for OSX.sitx
- Save the .sitx files to your hard disc by extracting them from .sitx archive files.
- Print the page and follow the steps given below.
STEP TWO: Installing the Prinergy virtual printer on your system
For OS X 3.x
- Search for the folder named “Prinergy Refiner” which was downloaded and extracted in Step 1
- The file “Prinergy Refiner” ppd should be copied to Macintosh HD: Library\Printers\PPDs\Contents\en.lproj
- Open the Printer Setup Utility from the Macintosh HD: Applications\Utilities
- Click on the Add button
- Select “IP Printing” from the top menu
- Select “LPD/LPR” from Printer Type menu
- Type localhost in the Printer Address field
- Type Print Pelican Magazine Printing in the Queue Name field
- Select Creo Products from the printer models list. You will see Prinergy Refiner appear in the Model Name window
- Click Add at the bottom of the window
- Now there will be a printer named Print Pelican Magazine Printing on localhost in the printer list
- Close the Printer Setup Utility.
- Well Done! Now you have installed the virtual printer which can be used by you to make commercial print-ready PDF files from your OS X applications
For OS X 4.x (Tiger)
- Search for the folder named “Prinergy Refiner” which you downloaded and extracted in Step 1
- The file “Prinergy Refiner” ppd should be copied to: Macintosh HD: Library\Printers\PPDs\Contents\en.lproj
- Open the Printer Setup Utility from the Macintosh HD: Applications\Utilities.
- Click on the Add button
- Select Internet Printing Protocol - IPP from the top menu
- Type localhost in the Address field
- Type Print Pelican Magazine Printing in the Queue field
- Type Print Pelican Magazine Printing in the Name field
- Choose Creo Products from the printer models list at Print Using. You will see Prinergy Refiner appear in the Model window.
- Click Add at the bottom of the window
- Now there will be a printer named Print Pelican Magazine Printing in the printer list
- Close the Printer Setup Utility
- Congratulations! After following the above instructions you will have successfully installed the virtual printer. This printer will be used by you to make commercial print-ready PDF files from your OS X applications
STEP THREE: Installing the Acrobat Distiller plug-in
For Acrobat Distiller 6:
- Search for the folder named “Distiller Assistant” which you have downloaded and extracted in Step 1
- The file “CreoDistillerAssistant” should be copied to Macintosh HD: users\shared\Adobe PDF 6.0\Startup
- Copy the file “Creo PDF Pages.joboptions” to Macintosh HD: users\shared\Adobe PDF 6.0\Settings
- Open Acrobat Distiller
- Now you will see the Creo PDF Pages item in the Default Settings drop-down menu
For Acrobat Distiller 7:
- It is the same as Acrobat Distiller 6 above, except for the following steps:
- Copy “CreoDistillerAssistant” to Macintosh HD: Library\Application Support\Adobe PDF\Startup
- Copy “Creo PDF Pages.joboptions” to Macintosh HD: Library\Application Support\Adobe PDF\Settings
How to use Distiller Assistant:
- Set the Default Settings to “Creo PDF Pages”.
- Into the open Distiller window drag a .ps file
- A PDF file in the same folder as the .ps file will be generated by Distiller
- Open the PDF file in Acrobat and check it to see that whether all elements are there. Check the crop marks, page orientation and bleeds, etc
- Congratulations! You can now make PDF files for high-resolution commercial printing
